Korea's state-run Northeast Asia History Foundation and Germany's Ravensbrück Memorial Museum will hold the Korea-Germany Forced Sexual Slavery Exhibition against the backdrop of rising awareness of the plight of "Comfort Women."

The exhibition will be held at Seoul's Seodaemun Prison History Hall from Nov. 15-30 and will compare the plight of women in Nazi concentration camps and imperial Japanese military camps. In addition to official photos, videos, and news articles, it will include sculptures, illustrations, and paintings made by the survivors themselves as well as other chronicles of the horrors of war.

The Ravensbrück Memorial Museum has already displayed the photos in Germany from January to September this year. The idea of the joint exhibition came as the U.S. Congress passed a resolution earlier this year calling on the Japanese government to officially acknowledge and apologize for the sexual violence committed during World War II. The seriousness of the issue has been long addressed in the U.N. and other world human rights organizations.

Insa Eschebach, director of the German museum, will attend the opening ceremony at 11 a.m., Thursday, and make a speech about women's forced sexual servitude during World War II.
"Through this exhibition, we hope Japan follows Germany's example by acknowledging what happened and contributing to reconciliation and cooperation," Kim Yong-deok, the head of the Foundation said. "It will be more than a one time event. Our foundation will make sure there will be other opportunities to understand and overcome this painful history."

"Comfort Women" is a Japanese euphemism for the young girls and women forced into Japanese military camps before and during the World War II. Historians believe over 200,000 Asian women were systemically raped by the Japanese army.
Just don't click the link where it states "For glimpse of more photos click Here (English translation added beneath)". For some reason the .pdf crashes the computer (could be because of the size or the Korean characters)
