Thats not so good Spidge. Sometimes no matter how you take the shot the inscription just can't be read. I have one similar from Banbury. No matter mate, you'll get it in the end.

Just coz you have some expensive massive camera that you need a crane and a tripod to use it.

I am going to buy myself an SLR camera for Christmas. The only problem is:

What make, model, size, features, lenses..............oh bloody hell!

I will need it especially for my photos in Wales as I only have about 5% there.

Got some out of the blue the other day. A UK chap in the services, stationed in Khartoum sent my requirements from the war cemetery there. Go the net!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Cheers

    Spidge,

My project is the collection of over 11,200
Headstone/Memorial photos of RAAF/RAF Aussies located in 67 countries during WW2 and 360+ from WW1. Can you assist?

    Hi Geoff,
How long is a piece of string ????
same sort of question, it can boil down to personal tastes and what you wish to use it for.
To me the Lumix appears to be the daddy of them all, value wise, but then again Cannon, and some of the others may be more to your liking.
My advice would be check for "DSLR" on the internet for best value, most useful, most adaptable, pixel range and number of useful lens if that is what you are after.
Be prepared to spend a minimum of £300 up to £6000 for the very best.
To me it always seems that the term DSLR, now refers to cameras with interchangeable lens, but after all, they all are viewed through the lens when selecting shot, gone are the days of over the camera viewing sights.
With the viewing possibilities that are included in most of the "ordinary" type of digital camera, with a pixel value between 10 - 14, unless you are specialising on a particular type of photography, they don't seem to warrant the extra cost.
I hope I'm not teaching my grandmother to suck eggs!!!!!!

    Cheers

So far i have around 50,000 photos of WW1 and WW2 casualties headstones and i am looking for volunteers in all areas of the world to take photo's of wargraves in the area where they live. I have a spreadsheet of all counties and countries which i recieved from the CWGC so will be able to tell you where in your area there are photos to be taken.
I am also looking for a couple of volunteers to do some admin work such as data splitting, and also in the future i will need someone to edit the volunteers newsletter. If you feel that you can help please contact me either on this thread or you can PM me and i will send you details.
    Thanks
